How to be optimistic

Positive thinking can change your mood. It enables you to see the bright side to life.

Change is inevitable. Positive thinking doesn’t mean you have to ignore the less pleasant situations that occur. It just means that you handle them in a more positive and productive way.

Having an optimistic outlook on life can provide health benefits such as:

  • Helping with depression
  • Better coping during times of stress
  • Improved psychological and physical well-being

Ways to shift your energy and start thinking positively:

1. Self talk and affirmations

Daily positive self talk, reading positive affirmations and quotes are all great ways to change your perception of life.

2. Always wear a smile

It helps to change your mood, relieve stress and even inspires those you meet daily to smile. Smiling can be positively contagious.

3. Surround yourself with positive people

This will help you get away from your own negative thoughts as you are able to divert your mind to happier thoughts and socialise with optimistic people.

4. Good music

When you are feeling down put on a song that makes you feel good. This will lift your mood and make you forget about unpleasant situations for awhile.

5. Encourage positive thinking in your daily activities

One way to do this is to think of a positive word for the day such as ‘Confidence‘. Keep this word where you can see it. You can do this by sticking the word on a bottle of water and once you have finished drinking that bottle of water to feel like you have acquired the word you have chosen.

This is a good way to train your mind to think positively and to encourage positive feelings.

In what ways do you practice positive thinking?
